General Theme for the Week
You do not grow spiritually by accident. Spiritual discipline is formed through daily, intentional pursuit of God.
“Have nothing to do with irreverent, silly myths. Rather train yourself for godliness…”
1 Timothy 4:7 to 8
Leigh: Matthew 1 to 4
Focus: Jesus’ origin, obedience, and preparation before ministry
Challenge: Consider Jesus’ time in the wilderness as a place of preparation, not interruption.
Where in your life do you sense the Spirit leading you into discomfort in order to prepare you?
How are you responding to that discomfort? How did Jesus respond when He was led into the wilderness and tempted?
Key Text: Matthew 4:1 to 11
“Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.”
Jordan and Jay: John 1 to 3
Focus: The Word, identity, and calling
Challenge: Practice discipline that flows from identity. You follow Christ because of who He has made you.
Are your habits being shaped by your identity as a child of God, or by old labels from the world, or even the names you keep calling yourself because of repeated struggles and failures?
What spiritual habits help you remember each day who you are in Christ?
Key Text: John 1:12 to 13
“But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God…”
Derrik: Hebrews 1 to 3
Focus: Jesus is supreme, so stay faithful
Challenge: Stay anchored so you do not drift.
What is spiritual drift? How is it different from openly walking away from the faith? Consider Hebrews 2:1.
How has discipline helped guard you this week from apathy, compromise, or passivity?
Key Text: Hebrews 2:1
“Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it.”
Closing Challenge for the Group
If your soul were your body, what condition would it be in right now? Strong, weak, underfed, or well trained?
Be ready to share how this week went, what challenges came up, and what it looked like to go to the spiritual gym each day.
And as always, pray daily for your brother.s!
