Imagine for a moment that you’ve climbed into a small recreational boat, setting out from a hushed marina on a sunlit morning.

The sea sparkles, the wind brushes your face, and the horizon beckons you forward. But even on the most beautiful days, wise boaters know: you don’t just drift—you chart a course.

You know your destination, keep an eye on the weather, and check your compass often. You’re intentional. You stay close to the shoreline when needed. And you trust the lighthouse and breakwaters to keep you safe.

This is what Christian dating can look like.

Not aimless or desperate like a powerless, drifting boat. Not driven by fear or fantasy as if caught in stormy seas.

But grounded, guided, and anchored in faith.

Dating, like boating, is meant to be navigated with clarity and care—not just for the sake of reaching some relational shore, but for the journey itself.

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
—Psalm 119:105

When our anchor is the Word of God, we can weather confusion, avoid rocky coasts, and resist the tides of cultural lies.

We don’t lean on our own understanding (Proverbs 3:5–6), but on the God who draws near when we’re uncertain (Psalm 34:18) and who promises to guide us (Psalm 32:8).

What to Expect in This Series

In this blog series, I’ll explore what it means to date with wisdom, peace, and joyful purpose as a Christian—whether you’re returning to dating after years away, navigating singleness, or simply seeking deeper intentionality.

Like a well-prepared boat crew, we’ll look at each part of the journey, with Jesus as our compass and our true North:

The Intentional Dater – Setting out with clarity and faith.

The True Purpose of Dating – More than a quest for romance.

The Gift of Singleness – Learning to enjoy the harbor.

The Dating Lies – Identifying false maps and the tides of culture.

The Data Collector – Learning wisely without attaching prematurely.

The Community Dater – Inviting your trusted crew into your process.

The Love Verb – How biblical love keeps us afloat.

The Intimacy Guard – Protecting emotional and physical integrity from going overboard.

The Kind Goodbye – Stopping the engine with grace, not guilt.

The Lighthouse – Keeping your eyes on Jesus in all weather.

Dating as a Christian isn’t about passivity or perfection—it’s about partnership with Jesus.

The Lord is the Lighthouse that draws us home,
the Lord is the Breakwater who shields us from crashing waves,
and the Lord is the Captain who never leaves our side, even when the waters are unclear.

So let’s launch this journey together—
not in fear or frustration, but with joy, hope, and the steady rhythm of the One who is love (1 John 4:8).

There’s beauty in the voyage—even before you reach the shore.
