Breakwater Blessings
Our Theological Perspective
A simple, transparent statement about the Christian perspective shaping this site, our writing, and our desire to point people to Jesus Christ.
Where We Are Rooted
Breakwater Blessings is written from a historic Christian perspective centered on Jesus Christ, rooted in Scripture, and dependent on the grace of God.
We believe God has made Himself known through His Word, most fully through His Son, Jesus Christ. We affirm the triune God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe salvation is by grace through faith in Christ, that the cross and resurrection stand at the center of God’s redemptive work, and that the Holy Spirit continues to convict, teach, strengthen, and conform God’s people to the image of Christ.
Christ-centered
We read Scripture with Jesus Christ as the center and fulfillment of God’s redemptive story.
Scripture-rooted
Spirit-dependent
We trust the Holy Spirit to convict, teach, strengthen, and form God’s people in Christ.
How We Approach Scripture
We receive Scripture as God’s authoritative Word, and we seek to let it correct, shape, and govern our understanding of God, ourselves, and the world. We read the whole story of Scripture as finding its center and fulfillment in Jesus Christ, the crucified and risen Lord.
This means we are not trying to make the Bible fit our preferences. We are seeking to submit our preferences, assumptions, questions, wounds, hopes, and convictions to the Lord who speaks through His Word.
Conviction with Humility
We write with conviction, but also with humility. Humility does not mean we hold truth loosely. It means we hold ourselves under the truth God has revealed.
We are not claiming to have mastered every mystery of God. We are seeking to know the Lord more faithfully, submit to His Word more deeply, and participate in His kingdom with love, truth, repentance, and hope.
Unity, Charity, and Secondary Matters
Where faithful Christians differ on secondary matters, we aim to speak with charity, patience, and a desire for unity without minimizing the truth of Scripture.
Our goal is not merely to be informed, but to be formed into people who love God, love neighbor, worship rightly, and walk faithfully.
What This Page Is, and Is Not
This page is not meant to be a full confession of faith or a replacement for the local church. It is a transparent starting point so readers understand the perspective behind Breakwater Blessings.
We encourage every reader to belong to a faithful local church, remain under biblical teaching, and test what we write against Scripture. Luke commends the Bereans because they received the teaching eagerly while “examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so” (Acts 17:11, ESV). We want readers to approach Breakwater Blessings with that same combination of openness, discernment, reverence, and love.
Our Aim
Our aim is to point people to Christ, encourage serious engagement with Scripture, and trust the sovereignty of God and the work of the Holy Spirit to lead His people into greater understanding, faithful obedience, and deeper worship.
“Speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ.”
Ephesians 4:15, ESV
