Is your life full, but it feels like your soul is running dry?

Jesus told a story about a seed that struggled to grow.
It wasn’t the seed that failed. It was the soil that wasn’t ready.
What might unprepared soil look like in your life?
We don’t usually connect a packed calendar with a struggling faith.
But maybe we should. Work, family, even church—it all feels necessary. But in the rush, we rarely stop to wonder:
Could our constant activity be crowding out the very space where faith is meant to grow?
Spiritual growth doesn’t just need effort.
It needs space.
Not just doing for God—but being with Him.
Not just motion—but margin.
Faith, like a plant, won’t grow where there’s no room to breathe.
The Parable of the Sower
(Mark 4:1–20)
Jesus described four types of soil. Not four types of seed—four conditions of the heart.
- The Hard Path – Resistant
The Word is heard, but quickly stolen.
Pride. Bitterness. Disbelief.
Like someone wounded by religion, they won’t even consider the possibility that God still wants to reach them. - The Rocky Places – Impulsive
The Word is received with excitement, but withers when life gets hard.
There’s no depth. No root.
Faith that’s built on a moment of hype won’t hold in the storm. - The Thorny Soil – Preoccupied
The Word is heard—but slowly choked.
Worries. Wealth. Wanting more.
It’s not rejection. It’s distraction.
You’re not against God… but somehow everything else takes over. - The Good Soil – Prepared
The Word takes root.
It grows. It bears fruit.
This isn’t perfect soil—it’s just open. Surrendered. Ready.
Jesus didn’t just tell this story to explain why people respond differently.
He told it to ask us: What kind of soil am I right now?
How Do We Prepare Our Heart to Be Good Soil?
One Thing is Needed
(Luke 10:38–42)
While visiting their home, Jesus is welcomed by two sisters—Martha and Mary. Martha rushes around, busy with preparations, while Mary sits at Jesus’ feet, listening to Jesus teach.
Frustrated, Martha asks Jesus to make Mary help.
Martha was doing the right things. She was working. Preparing. Serving.
But Mary was doing the better thing—she made space to sit with Jesus and listen to Him.
Only one of them was really ready to receive.
Jesus wasn’t mad at Martha. He just reminded her:
“You are worried and upset about many things… but only one thing is needed.”
What was that one thing?
Being with Jesus. Sitting at His feet. Receiving what He offers. His words, His heart, His very life.
Jesus Himself.
Make Room
You can’t grow what you won’t make room for.
You can’t hear God if your life is louder than His voice.
Clear the clutter.
Make space.
Invite God to grow something lasting in you.
